A prominent American college football player, a young nurse, a young mother and a British national were among the victims of the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans that killed 14 people.

Their names are being released by family and relatives before authorities complete post-mortem examinations.

The accused was shot dead by the police.

Martin “Tiger” Beach, in his late twenties, was a former football player at Princeton University.

A statement from the university confirmed his death.

“No Princeton player I’ve coached could have had a more fitting nickname,” Princeton football coach Bob Soares said in a statement.

“He was a ‘Tiger’ in every way – a fierce competitor with endless energy, a loving colleague and a caring friend.”

Martin Beach’s brother, Jack Beach, paid tribute to X with a news article reporting his death.

“Love you always bro!” he wrote. “You inspired me every day now you’ll be with me every moment. I’ve got this family tea, don’t worry. It’s for us.”

St. Thomas More Principal Marty Cannon, Mr. Beach’s senior year at Coach High School, said he was special.

“I don’t think there was ever anyone like Tiger,” he said.

“We could go on and on about what a great athlete he was, but he was so much more than that. He was a complete man and he was a, he was a stand-up guy that we really respected and Respect, and we really liked.”

Mr. Beach was a member of the 2016 and 2018 Ivy League Championship teams.

The 18-year-old was an aspiring nurse.

His death was confirmed by his mother, Melissa Dedoux, on social media.

“I LOST MY BABY JUST PRAY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY PLEASE!!! GOD I NEED YOU NOW!!” Mom made the request with a photo of her daughter wearing that year’s red graduation cap and gown.

Ms Dedoux – also a nurse – told local media outlet Nola that her daughter was due to start her nurse’s training later this month.

She added that Nakera had gone out with a cousin and a friend, who both survived.

Dante Reid, a school friend of Naqueira’s, told The New York Times that he received a terrifying call from her cousin, who said he had run after hearing gunshots, and that he — Naqueira — was missing

“She was a source of joy for the little time we had,” her grandmother, Jennifer Smith, told the newspaper.

“I am very proud of all my grandchildren and one in particular.”

Edward Pettyfer

Edward Pettyfer, of Chelsea, London, suffered fatal “blunt force injuries” in the attack, according to the preliminary cause of death given by the New Orleans coroner.

The Prince of Wales said the 31-year-old’s stepmother is Alexandra Pettyfer, formerly known as Tiggy Legg-Bourke, who looked after Prince William and Prince Harry in the 1990s.

Prince William said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Pettyfer’s family and all the innocent people affected by this horrific attack.”

In a statement, Mr Pettyfer’s family said: “The whole family is devastated at the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend to many.”

Reggie Hunter

The store manager and father-of-two’s death was confirmed by his cousin Cheryl Robinson-Jackson to BBC News’ US partner CBS News.

Ms Jackson described him as “full of life” and said the 37-year-old had texted the family minutes after midnight to congratulate him on his new arrival.

He was with another cousin who was injured in the attack.

Courtney Hunter, Mr Hunter’s younger sister, told The New York Times that her brother loved being with family and was competitive when it came to playing games.

Karim Badawi

His father, Bilal Badawi, confirmed Kareem’s death and expressed “deep sorrow and grief”.

Mr. Badawi said: “We pray to Allah to shower his mercy on him, and give us patience and strength to overcome him.”

“We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return”, he added in a statement commonly read by Muslims upon hearing the news of another Muslim’s death.

Last year, a Facebook post by Mr. Badawi congratulated Kareem after he graduated from high school.

Karim was a student at the University of Alabama, whose president, Stuart R. Bell, said: “I am with Karim’s family and friends for their heartbreaking loss.”

Mr. Bell’s message – which was shared by faculty on Facebook – also asked people to “take a moment to pray for those affected by this tragedy.”

The 21-year-old’s death was confirmed on social media by his former high school, Archbishop Shaw.

“We are asking the entire Archbishop Shaw family to pray for Hubert’s soul, his family and friends and all those affected by this tragedy at this difficult time.

Kimberly Usherfall, Ms. Perez’s friend and the boss of the deli she managed, called her dedicated, smart and a “good-hearted person,” according to CBS.

“She was beautiful and full of life,” he wrote at an online fundraiser he set up for his friend.

The 27-year-old girl was also the mother of a four-year-old boy.

Ms Usherfall said Ms Perez used to bring her son to work on days off from school.

Ms. Usher Fall told The Washington Post that she taught him math and the alphabet in the deli’s storage room while she worked.

“She was a really good kid, man, she really was,” he added, “she was just doing everything, and she was gone, just gone.”

His mother, Cathy Tenedorio, told US broadcaster NBC News that she last saw her son alive at 21:00 local time on New Year’s Eve, adding that he was hugging and kissing him. I remembered

Mr Tenedorio’s cousin Christina Bounds told the BBC that his family “begged not to go” to the Bourbon Street area on New Year’s Eve, worried about the size of the crowds and potential dangers. He was at his family’s home in the town of Slidell in the early evening.

He decided to go celebrate and was separated from his friends when the attack happened.

Family members believe he was killed in a shootout between police and a suspect – but there has been no response from authorities or police.

“We could not get any information when my aunt [Tenedorio’s mother, Cathy] “Shown up at the hospital,” he said. No information has been received from doctors, hospitals or police. None.”

“They have zero information, and that’s the part that’s freaking everybody out. We don’t even know what happened,” Bounds added. “Was he done by EMS? Was he in an ambulance? Did he die instantly?”

He added that the answers would “help people come to terms” with what happened.

“But now it’s like a complete shock,” he added. “It’s not registering.”

Drew Dauphin

Auburn University in the US state of Alabama said in a post on social media Thursday that Drew Dauphin, who graduated from the institution in 2023, was among the victims.

“Words cannot describe the sorrow the Auburn family feels for Drew’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time,” its president Christopher B. Roberts said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the Dauphin family and the families of all the victims of this senseless tragedy.”

Billy De Maio

A spokesman for the broadcasting company Odyssey, where Mr. DeMaio worked as an account executive in New York, confirmed to CBS that he was among the victims.

“In addition to his professional accomplishments, Billy will be remembered for his unwavering ethics, positive attitude and kindness,” they said in a statement.

“He was a true asset to the Odyssey team, and his contribution and presence will be sorely missed.”

The 25-year-old went to Holmdel High School where he played lacrosse before graduating from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, according to a local newspaper in Holmdel, New Jersey.

In a Facebook post, Holmdel High School Boys Lacrosse said: “Our lacrosse community has suffered an unimaginable loss.

“Billy was a remarkable young man on and off the field. All of us in the Holmdel community are devastated by this sad news.”

Terence Kennedy

Terrence Kennedy, 63, of New Orleans, was among those killed in the attack, his family confirmed to CBS News.

His wife, Jacqueline, told the outlet that her husband had been killed. Other family members said efforts were made to reach him as news of the attack spread.

Kennedy’s niece, Monisha James, told CBS that her family was unable to get a hold of her and tried calling various hospitals in the area. He said authorities have confirmed that he was killed in Thursday’s attack.

In a Facebook post, Monisha said her uncle was known as “Terry” and was a nice, quiet man who enjoyed sports and loved his large family in New Orleans.

Elliott Wilkinson

Elliott Wilkinson, 40, was among the dead, a coroner confirmed to CBS News.

Mr Wilkinson’s brother Cecil posted on Facebook: “To my little brother Elliot Wilkinson you were loved and will be truly missed. I know life was hard for you at times.

“But I didn’t expect to get a call this morning saying you were one of those killed in New Orleans in the French Quarter.”

Mr. Wilkinson was from Slidell, Louisiana.

Brandon Taylor

Brandon Taylor, 43, was also killed in the attack, a coroner confirmed to CBS News.

The Harvey, Louisiana, native was “one of a kind in every way,” her partner Heather Genosa paid tribute on Facebook.

“I have never met another human being like you,” she wrote on Facebook. “No words can express the pain of losing you.”
