Family handoutTributes have been paid to a 13-year-old boy killed in a quad bike crash near Newry.
A Tiernan trainer was injured in the incident on Lowe Road, just outside Kilevi on Thursday.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast but later died from his injuries.
St Paul’s High School in Bessbrook described Tiernan as a “well-loved and popular Year 10 pupil” who was recently elected to serve on its student council.
In a statement, the school said Tiarnán had “an infectious personality” and was known throughout the school as a “lorry fanatic”.
He announced that the school’s oratory will be open on Saturday and Sunday for students and their families to come together to remember Tiarnán.
“Once students return to school next week, the Education Authority’s Critical Intent Team, as well as school staff, will be available to support and assist students at this very sad time,” the school added.
St. Paul High School Vice Principal Christine Fearon called the news “devastating.”
He described Tiarnán as “a pretty cheeky chap” who was “very likable and lively”.
Ms Fearon said Tiarnán was “very popular” and had recently been chosen to represent 305 pupils in his year group.
“He was a wonderful young lad and he will leave a huge void at St Paul’s,” he added.
Jonesborough Primary School, where Tiarnán previously attended, said: “As a community we stand in sympathy with Tiarnán’s family, understanding that words cannot comfort the heart of loss and grief. , especially when life ends so prematurely.
“Tearnan was a lively and enthusiastic boy, who will be fondly remembered by all.”
Killive GAA Club said it was “heartbroken” by the death of Tiernan, who was a player in its under-14 boys’ team.
Club members described him as “a joy to coach”.
“He loved playing matches and will be remembered by all of us for his bright and positive personality, always a cheerful and enthusiastic and very well-mannered young lad amongst his colleagues.”
“He will be greatly missed by his young teammates and coaches,” the club added.
12th Armagh Slieve Gullion Scouts said its leaders and members were “deeply saddened” to learn of the death.
“We have a lot of fond memories of him at the Cubs,” the group added.
Armagh Summer School, where Tiernan regularly attended his Gaelic Games camps, described the news as “heartbreaking”.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, may they rest in peace”.
Social Democratic and Labor Party (SDLP) MLA Justin McEntee described the incident as “appalling”.
“We are all shocked by this terrible news, especially at this time of the year,” he said.
“We are just devastated for the mother and father of this young boy.”
