Police are investigating after Sara Sharif’s father was allegedly assaulted in prison just weeks after he was jailed for murdering a 10-year-old boy.
Irfan Sharif is said to have been attacked by two other inmates in a cell at Belmarsh Prison on New Year’s Day. The Sun newspaper reported.
Sharif reportedly suffered injuries to his neck and face, and is understood to have received medical treatment inside the prison.
Sharif, 43, and Sarah’s stepmother Sentenced to life imprisonment. After being convicted at the Old Bailey last month of murdering Sarah at her home in Woking, Surrey.
A Prison Service spokesman said: “Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on January 1.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while they are investigating.”
Belmarsh is a Category A prison in South East London that houses some of the UK’s most dangerous prisoners.
According to Sun, Sharif was attacked with a makeshift weapon.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers were “investigating an allegation that a prisoner was assaulted in Belmarsh”.
“The 43-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” he added.
Sarah was covered, burned and beaten during a “campaign of violence” that continued for two years before her body was found at the family home in August 2023.
Irfan Sharif was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison for murder, while his 30-year-old wife Benish Batul was sentenced to a minimum of 33 years in prison.
Faisal Malik, 29, Sara’s uncle, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for causing or allowing her death.
The trio, along with Sarah’s five siblings, fled to Islamabad, Pakistan, a day before her body was found, sparking an international search.
