Gwyneth Paltrow is grateful for her mixed religious family and upbringing in such an environment.
On Wednesday, December 25, the actress and Goop The founder reflects on the interfaith marriage of her mother Blythe Danner and late father Bruce Paltrow and talks about the struggle to get her loved ones to accept her.
“My mom’s Christian, my dad’s Jewish,” Gwyneth said in a video on her first night of Hanukkah with Noah Tishbi.
“It’s interesting — I grew up in the ’70s at a time when interfaith marriage was still a big thing. And so it was really hard for both of my parents’ parents to be married to each other. ”
He continued, “It was a bit of an abomination. Nobody was happy about it.
“He definitely grew to accept it later in life and kind of let it all go,” Gwyneth added.
Blythe and Bruce married in 1969 and welcomed two children together, Gwyneth and Jack Paltrow.
However, after 30 years of marriage, Bruce passed away in 2002 after a battle with throat cancer.
“I felt very fortunate because I grew up in these two very different worlds and with very different beliefs,” added Gwyneth.
