Two men have been arrested and face felony child abuse charges after a one-month-old baby was discovered in the middle of the road on Christmas morning.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said the baby was left in a car seat in the median near 7490 Pecos St. wearing only a diaper. Authorities said they received a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. Christmas morning that discovered the abandoned child.
“We’re hoping someone recognizes the car seat or knows something about the child or the family so they can be reunited with loved ones and bring the person who abandoned them to justice,” ACSO said. Can.”
A social worker is with the child at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where he is being monitored as a precaution. Officials said they don’t yet know when she was released into the median, and the child was not injured.
The sheriff’s department provided an update around 4:30 p.m. thanking the public for helping locate the child’s family.
“As an update, our investigators are in contact with the infant’s family and are continuing to investigate and will pursue criminal charges if deemed appropriate,” ACSO said.
Just after 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office announced they had arrested the child’s parents, Jarvis Sims and Christina Thurman. Both face felony child abuse charges in connection with the case.
Historical weather data shows that temperatures in Denver were around 34 to 37 degrees Fahrenheit at the time the baby was found and in the hours leading up to his arrival.
Adams County investigators say at this time they do not know how long the child was left unattended.
Sims and Thurman will appear in court Thursday morning.
