Will Smith has tackled the toughest role of his life.
Will made a film on slavery that he admitted he wanted to prevent.
In an interview, Pursuit of happiness The actor admitted that he never wanted to make a film on slavery and wanted to avoid such roles in his career.
“I never wanted to make a film about slavery. I’ve avoided those roles throughout my career”, told Smith, “I didn’t want to show black people in that light.”
The 56-year-old American actor played the role of ‘Peter’ in the 2022 action thriller Emancipation. The story follows a slave who runs away from a Louisiana plantation after being whipped into his life.
The Oscar-winning actor believed that it was the most difficult film of his career.
Will told Complex: “Without question, it was the hardest film of my career. It was hot; a hurricane tore through our sets. I was in the swamp every day.”
“But when you’re telling a true story like this, you get a lot of energy from the meaningful purpose of sharing an incredible human life with others.”
Directed by Anton Foucault, Emancipation stars Steven Ogg, Aaron Moton, Mustafa Shakir, Ben Foster and Charmaine Bangua.
