Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer was emotional when he revealed he had received a letter from another man who attended Meadwell Hall School in the 1970s, who had a near-death experience in the school pool. was shared.
Taking to X, formerly the Twitter handle, Spencer shared the text of the letter, saying “it made me cry”.
He tweeted: “Received a letter yesterday from another who attended Meadwell Hall School in the 1970s, who recounted his near-death experience in the school pool at the time to the tragic Mr Maud. was shared by – as recalled in my memoir ‘A Very Private School’:
The letter reads, “Dear Charles, I finally got a chance to read your book.
“I just finished it and am quietly absorbing the content.”
It further read, “…I appreciate your accurate recap of my pool episode and Green Bamboo. [caning] The reality of the experience is stark when it comes to cataloging the abuse of others, and oddly enough, it’s all the more shocking to see it in print.
“I can’t say that I enjoyed reading your book because I found it very poignant and disturbing, which brings back some horrible feelings, feelings in your stomach, but I think you have to describe it. I did a great job of how the school was and it is beautifully designed.”
Commenting on one fan’s reaction, Spencer said, “It made me cry.”
