Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Zain Qureshi, along with 3 more accused, were booked by Rawalpindi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday in connection with the May 9 riots. Charged in assault case. .
The hearing was conducted by ATC judge Amjad Ali Shah while PTI founder Imran Khan was also presented in the court room.
Special public prosecutors Naveed Malik, Zaheer Shah, PTI lawyers Faisal Malik and Faisal Chaudhry were also present in the hearing.
Along with Zain, Raja Nasir Mahfouz and Raja Shehbaz Tiger have also been charged. Zain did not attend the hearing.
Today’s developments bring the total number of indictments to 116.
Meanwhile, the prosecution requested the court to block the identity cards of Bilal, Ejaz, Asim and Shaheer Sikandar.
This came a day after the ATC rejected the acquittal pleas of PTI leaders, including the party’s founding chairman Imran and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood, and after indicting the accused, the pleas were ” Inconclusive”.
The accused in the case included former ruling party leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Kanwal Shozab, Shehryar Afridi, Shibli Faraz and others.
Former Prime Minister Imran was also formally accused of involvement in arson and vandalism at the headquarters of the Pakistan Army.
Dozens of PTI leaders and workers have been accused of planning the May 9 events and inciting workers and supporters to attack military and government installations following the arrest of the ousted prime minister by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year. was
During the protest, miscreants targeted civil and military installations including Jinnah House and General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The army declared May 9 as “Black Day” and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.
The PTI founder, however, blamed “agency men” for the arson and firing in some areas during the May 9 violent protests.
The then government as well as an incumbent ruler have repeatedly accused the PTI founder and senior party leadership of “organised” attacks on military installations.
Despite getting relief in major cases, the former prime minister is still facing multiple cases related to the May 9 incidents being heard by various anti-terrorism courts.
