A Georgia appeals court has removed Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis from the election conspiracy case against President-elect Donald Trump.
The ruling overturns an earlier ruling by a Georgia court that allowed Willis to remain on trial after she was involved in a romantic relationship with one of the prosecutors hired for the case.
Trump and several other co-defendants were charged in Georgia in an alleged scheme to reverse the state’s 2020 Republican election loss to Joe Biden.
“After carefully considering the trial court’s findings in its ruling, we conclude that it erred in failing to disqualify DA Willis and his office,” the appeals court wrote in its decision. is.”
The court’s decision does not dismiss the indictment against Trump and his co-defendants, meaning a new prosecutor will be appointed to try them.
Trump is unlikely to face trial until after his time in the White House, but some of his co-defendants could face trial soon.
Several Trump allies, including Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesbrough, have already pleaded guilty in the case.
