Earlier this week, content creators and Life coach Rob shared an Instagram video of passengers walking on a plane with the canine, which typically weighs between 110 and 175 pounds.

In the footage, which has now amassed more than 4.8 million views on Instagram, a female flight attendant can be heard greeting the dog’s owner at the gate.

“Hey, welcome aboard,” he said unenthusiastically, before the Great Dane got to his feet.

“Oh,” the airline worker said as the man quickly apologized.

During the clip, Rob wrote: “Have we taken this animal support thing too far?”

Her question prompted many viewers to offer similar opinions about bringing an emotional support dog of that size on a small plane. Some commenters agreed that pets would cause more problems than they would solve.

“Emotional support for one person, emotional pain for hundreds! This is ridiculous,” said one person, while another agreed: “I’m a dog lover but this is getting absolutely ridiculous. I’m all for trained service animals… this is not one of them.

One canine owner noted: “As someone who had a Great Dane and observes his classic body language, this is not a helpful therapy animal. Lol.”

“If he had been anywhere near me on the plane I would have been furious. It’s very disrespectful and shouldn’t have been allowed,” admitted another.

Meanwhile, a concerned passenger pointed out the health risks of keeping a dog of this size so close to other people.

“So now you place that dog with someone who has dog trauma or allergies… then what?” he asked. “Because it can’t block the aisle! It’s allowed to be on the next person’s lap unless they pay for two seats. Besides, that poor dog won’t be able to lie down.”

However, someone else disagreed: “I’d rather have him than a bunch of rude screaming kids. That dog can sit next to me anytime.”

Other viewers defended the flight attendant against haters who criticized her “sad” facial expressions and attitude towards the animal.

“Oh my god, that flight attendant pissed me off. That big kid could sit next to me anytime,” said one woman, while another wrote in defence: “To be fair everyone in the video was welcomed by its brilliance.”
