Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on her official visit to China revealed a partnership with Huawei Technologies to revolutionize Lahore as Pakistan’s first state-of-the-art smart city.
During a visit to Huawei’s headquarters in Shanghai’s Longgang District, company representatives warmly welcomed the Prime Minister, highlighting the importance of cooperation.
Maryam invited Huawei to invest in Punjab, particularly in the Nawaz Sharif IT City, and promised comprehensive support for setting up assembly and manufacturing plants in the province.
Additionally, he suggested the development of retail offices and after-sales service centers to strengthen Huawei’s presence across Punjab.
In a comprehensive meeting with Huawei’s President of Government Affairs Wang Chengdong, the Chief Minister discussed a detailed roadmap to transform Lahore into a state-of-the-art digital city.
Their discussions focused on advancing e-commerce, increasing ecosystem productivity and digitizing the health and education sectors.
Wang highlighted Huawei’s ongoing projects in Pakistan and explored opportunities for deeper cooperation aligning with Punjab’s strategic goals for digital transformation.
The Chief Minister expressed special interest in Huawei’s initiatives in health and education, recognizing their potential to meet Punjab’s broader development goals.
He appreciated Huawei’s involvement in Lahore’s first Safe City project and encouraged the company to step up its role in building a modern, secure digital ecosystem.
He emphasized that the vision of “Digital Punjab” relies on partnerships with global technology leaders like Huawei and capacity building programs, IT research, and the development of Punjab’s first fully AI-based university. I proposed their cooperation.
He said that these efforts will equip the youth of Punjab with the latest digital technologies, promote innovation-based development and economic growth in the province.
The Chief Minister highlighted the transformative role of technology in governance and urban development, reiterating his commitment to innovation-driven progress.
He asserted that transforming Lahore into a modern smart city would set an example for other cities in Pakistan, promote economic growth, create employment opportunities and improve urban living standards.
The visit concluded with Mary visiting Huawei’s facilities, where she reviewed their advanced technological capabilities and discussed further opportunities for cooperation.
