To help the province’s senior citizens, the Sindh government has announced plans to launch the Sindh Senior Citizen Card, which will benefit 3.7 million citizens aged 60 years and above.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Mir Tariq Ali Khan Talpur said officials said Sindh is the first province to issue the Sindh Senior Citizen Card, which will provide medical facilities, ease of travel and other basic amenities to senior citizens.
The Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a program to help the elderly population of the province. According to NADRA data, the Sindh Senior Citizen Card will benefit 3.7 million citizens aged 60 years and above, offering better access to healthcare, travel facilities and other civic services.
Formerly known as Azadi Card, the initiative has been rebranded to reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the dignity and well-being of senior citizens. Important officials including Talpur, Social Welfare Secretary Pervez Ahmed Sehar, Social Welfare Director General Athar Hussain Mirani, Nadra Karachi Director General Ehtsham Shahid and Program Manager Junaid Shaukat attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, the Sindh Social Welfare Minister highlighted the importance of this initiative and said that “Sindh Senior Citizen Card is a reflection of our commitment to ensure the welfare of our senior population. Easy access to essential services. Peace is the foundation of our history and culture.”
He explained that the Sindh government wants to build a society that values and cares for its elderly and the issuance of the new card was just one of the many steps it would take to build a more inclusive and compassionate society. Picking up for “The Sindh Senior Citizen Card is more than just a card – it is a promise by the government to its citizens that their contribution to society will never be forgotten. We are ensuring that the senior population is better served. Access to healthcare, hassle-free travel and other civic services that make their lives easier,” he added.
Director General of NADRA Karachi said that NADRA was proud to be a part of the project to help the elderly population in Sindh. “The Sindh Senior Citizen Card will significantly facilitate access to various services for our senior citizens, who have contributed to the society for a long time,” he said, adding that the Sindh Senior Citizen Card will act as an identification tool, giving them access to essential services.
