King Charles and Queen Camilla have chosen a photo of themselves in the gardens of Buckingham Palace for their official Christmas card.
The photo – taken in April – shows the smiling couple standing side by side on what appears to be a sunny day. The greeting reads “Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.
The King – standing left – wears a gray suit and blue tie with his right hand in his pocket, while the Queen wears a blue wool crepe dress.
The picture is his third Christmas card since Charles became king.
The photo, taken by photographer Millie Pilkington, was taken when the monarch returned to public duties following a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Mahal said the card reflects the moment when life was starting to return to normal.
The image is also more informal than the one chosen for Christmas 2023.
Last year’s photo was taken by Hugo Bernand and showed the royal couple in the throne room at Buckingham Palace after their coronation.
The pair stood side by side, with King Charles wearing the Imperial State Crown and Queen Camilla wearing Queen Mary’s crown.
Christmas images used to decorate official festive cards are regularly released by senior members of the royal family.
It will take several days for Charles and Camilla to personally sign all the cards. About 2,700 will be sent to people around the world, including family, friends, world leaders and organizations.
