ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan’s latest call for civil disobedience came as a surprise to the party leadership, many of whom believed it was not possible.
Most of the party leaders have been voicing their reservations over the call for civil disobedience by their party chairman, in their internal WhatsApp group discussions.
For them, such an invitation is neither practical nor timely. Party sources told The News that they are in talks to take up the issue with Imran Khan and withdraw it.
Sources claim that party leaders like Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Sulaiman Akram Raja, Ali Amin Gandapur and Asad Qaiser also got to know about the call for civil disobedience from Imran Khan’s “X” post.
“It is not feasible,” a source said, adding that neither overseas Pakistanis would stop sending money to their families in Pakistan, nor would anyone stop paying electricity and gas bills.
Even PTI leaders can’t do it because it means disqualification for parliamentarians to participate in such civil disobedience.
A PTI leader said that whoever is advising Imran Khan on these lines is insulting both the party and the founding chairman.
The last protest call of November 24 was also given by Imran Khan without consulting his party leadership. Several senior PTI leaders were unhappy with the November 24 protest call and wanted to meet Imran Khan to review his decision but could not do so as the authorities did not allow the leaders to meet the jailed leader. was
When contacted, senior PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan said that the party leadership will meet Imran Khan to take further instructions on what the founder chairman has announced. Ali further said that in the meantime the committee formed by Imran Khan will start its work.
