The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that SHOs are not posted in any police station whose service profile includes a criminal record. be gray The directive came on a plea regarding enforced disappearance of a citizen and non-availability of rules for transfers and postings of SHOs.

A division bench of the Sindh High Court headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhour also directed the IGP that political or departmental interference in the transfers and postings of SHOs of all ranges should any person be found involved in such cases. The Sindh High Court was informed that the Sindh Police Rules 2024 are being drafted and a chapter is being worked on regarding transfers and postings of training DIG SHOs. The draft rules were submitted to the office-in-charge of Thana Sadar and the government will approve the final rules.

The High Court observed that looking at the draft of the rules, it appears that the Inspector General of Police, Sindh was ready to follow these instructions and had tried to draft the rules. The Sindh High Court disposed of the petition regarding the draft rules, which will be subject to the final approval of the Sindh government. The Sindh High Court observed that in the medium term, the draft rules will be implemented in all ranges including the Karachi range.

Meetha Ram Hostel

The SHC directed the Endowment Secretary to submit the status of Mathuram Hostel as it was dedicated by Mathuram for the purpose of education. The High Court directed the Secretary to file the MoUs, if any, signed with the law enforcement agencies or other agencies regarding the occupation of the hostel with time.

The bench asked the Rangers’ law officer why the hostel was declared a sub-jail when it was built for education. The counsel for the Rangers took the stand that the Sindh government had allotted Mutha Ram Hostel for the Rangers keeping in view the law and order situation. He said that the Rangers have maintained the hostel as per the required standard. The High Court directed the Endowment Secretary to submit with any MoU with the status of Meetha Ram Hostel if any was signed with that term.
