The administration of justice is the bedrock of a civilized society, and public prosecutors play an important role in upholding the rule of law in Pakistan. As government advocates, they are guardians of justice, upholding the rights of complainants and ensuring that the interests of justice are served. The provision of free legal services by the state to complainants is a constitutional guarantee that ensures access to justice for all, irrespective of their financial means. However, the compensation of government lawyers is a far cry from their private counterparts, who earn handsome fees without restrictions. In contrast, government lawyers are paid a monthly salary that is not commensurate with their skills and experience, especially in today’s era of inflation.
It is a shame that government lawyers have to resort to protests and petitions to demand better salaries and benefits. Despite his tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to justice, the government has left him high. Authorities should take note of their grievances and provide them with better facilities, training and resources so that they can perform their duties more effectively.
