ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ensure smooth and successful completion of the 37-month IMF programme. In a separate meeting, Aurangzeb attended the first workshop on “Implementation Management” organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This workshop is the first in a series of three with sessions focusing on digital transformation and social transformation respectively. The event was organized by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Pak-Saudi economic cooperation.

The workshop titled “Saudi Pakistan Economic Cooperation Task Force – Pakistan Transformation” was attended by top government officials. Addressing the participants, the Finance Minister highlighted the importance of learning from KSA’s Vision 2030 model – a model of strong implementation strategies.

Focusing on “people, process and technology”, he emphasized the need to adopt approaches that ensure successful outcomes of change while considering Pakistan’s unique socio-economic context. The minister stressed the need for ‘policy continuity’ as the basis for sustainable development, drawing attention to the concept of “irreversibility” in reforms, which is a key element of Saudi Arabia’s success story.

“Pakistan has often failed to ensure policy continuity. The lesson we should take from Saudi Arabia is the importance of irreversibility in transformational initiatives.

The minister also acknowledged the potential for challenges, noting that not every aspect of Saudi Arabia’s transformation model could be replicated in Pakistan. However, he affirmed that setbacks are inevitable in achieving meaningful growth, stressing that learning through failure is an essential part of success. “To ensure success, reforms must not only be implemented but also institutionalized, making them difficult to reverse,” he added.

The workshop featured a comprehensive presentation by Yahya bin Laden, who explained Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 approach to developing strategic objectives and transforming them into measurable results through rigorous implementation.

The workshop concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to leverage international best practices, foster cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and advance the economic and social transformation agenda.
