Rabbani opposes the criteria for appointment of vice-chancellors in Sindh universities.

ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani demanded the Sindh government to withdraw the cabinet decision to amend the Sindh Universities and Institutes Laws Act 2018 regarding the criteria for the appointment of vice-chancellors in general universities and the Sindh Assembly to pass this amendment. Do not approve.

“This will pave the way for bureaucrats to become vice-chancellors, which is condemned. Vice-chancellors are not only administrators but academic leaders of the university.” In a statement, he opposed the Sindh Cabinet’s decision to amend the Sindh Universities and Institutes Laws Act 2018. The former Senate chairman argued that it was a retrograde step and would have dire consequences on academic standards and affect academic freedom in universities.

Raza Rabbani said that under the proposed bill, the qualification of PhD holder academic is being abolished and replaced by a government officer of grade 21 or above, with four years of experience and a relevant master’s degree. will be appointed as Vice-Chancellors. Rabbani, a general university, said the terminology used in the bill is too vague, making it easy for bureaucrats to appoint.
