Authorities in the UK recently recovered a stolen van filled with 2,500 pies of the unusual food. Theft gone wrong.
The price of the pies was estimated at 25,000 British pounds or $32,000. The eatery was owned by Tommy Banks, a restaurateur who owns two Michelin-starred establishments.
The carriage, loaded with steak and ale pie as well as turkey and butternut varieties, was headed for the Christmas market in York.
The theft of the pies caused a stir on social media earlier this week, with Banks calling on his followers to find the missing pie.

“Thief! Keep your eyes on the pies!!” Banks wrote to X before he got the van. “Help find the pies. Let’s try and retrieve them and feed some people.”
Banks also asked the thieves to “do the right thing” and leave the pies at the community center so the food doesn’t go to waste.

The pies were left in the stolen van, but were not edible or sellable, Banks said. Banks confirmed the van was insured but lamented the loss of the tasty pie.
“It’s just such a waste. It’s just garbage,” Banks said in a video on Instagram. “Sorry, this story doesn’t have a happy ending.”
The pie incident is one of the few unusual food thefts in Britain this year. In October, a group of thieves posing as a wholesale distributor committed a theft. Over 950 wheels English cheddar.
