ISLAMABAD: High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maruf held an important meeting with former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at her residence in Gulshan in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
Diplomatic sources told The News here on Tuesday evening that the High Commissioner congratulated him on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He responded to the sentiment.
Begum Khaleda Zia is the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and both sides called it a courtesy call that lasted for 90 minutes.
BNP leader Professor Dr. Zahid Hussain and organizational secretary Shama Obaid were also present on this occasion.
Dr. Zahid Hussain told the media that the High Commissioner discussed various issues with the Chairperson of BNP. He highlighted the services of late General Zia-ur-Rehman for Bangladesh and expressed Pakistan’s desire to take its relations with Bangladesh to new heights.
Pakistan and Bangladesh had very cordial relations during the reign of Begum Khaleda Zia.
