Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to participate in the “One Water Summit” to be held on December 3-4.
The Deputy Governor of Riyadh, Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Rahman Bin Abdul Aziz along with the Ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia and others received the Prime Minister at the Royal Airport Terminal in Riyadh.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
He wrote on his X official handle, “Just arrived in Riyadh to join Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other world leaders at the One Water Summit, a timely event to collectively address water security challenges. Strategy will be considered.”
“Together, we aim to accelerate action to combat desertification, address water pollution, and advocate for action at the local, regional, and global levels. Let’s unite in our efforts for water sustainability! ” He added.
At the summit, the Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at a round table that will focus on restoration, conservation and adaptation in the context of freshwater resources and wetlands.
He will also highlight the steps taken by Pakistan to promote water conservation, strengthen climate resilience, improve water quality, generate livelihoods and conserve biodiversity.
Prime Minister Shehbaz will emphasize the importance of international cooperation to address climate-induced floods, abnormal and extreme weather patterns and the effects of heat stress on water resources and ecosystems.
They will also push for meaningful international cooperation for the sustainable management of water resources.
Bilateral meetings and engagements of the Prime Minister are expected on the occasion of the event.
‘Significant progress in Saudi investment’
A day ago, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the progress in cooperation and investment projects between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and appreciated the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
Presiding over the review meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan’s cooperation with Saudi Arabia is continuously increasing in various fields, highlighting the strategic partnership between the two countries.
“Saudi Arabia has been a reliable partner in Pakistan’s difficult times, and we are committed to deepening this cooperation,” the Prime Minister said.
The meeting also included a briefing on significant developments in bilateral investment.
The meeting was briefed about the progress made on bilateral cooperation in various fields in the second meeting of Pakistan Saudi Arabia Joint Task Force in November.
It was reported that the two countries have signed 34 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in a short span of time, out of which seven have already been formalized into agreements. These contracts were worth $560 million.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Petroleum Minister Dr. Mossadegh Malik and Special Investment Facilitation Council National Coordinator Lt. Gen. Sarfaraz Ahmed.
