Court upholds Bushra Bibi’s arrest warrant in £190 million case

ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court on Monday upheld the non-bailable arrest warrant of PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million reference case. The court also issued a notice to his surety.

The judge directed the police to arrest Bushra Bibi and produce her in court. However, senior counsel for the accused, Barrister Salman Safdar, assured the court that she will appear in the next hearing on December 5.

During the hearing held in Adiala Jail, Imran Khan was presented in the court, but Bushra Bibi was absent. Barrister Salman Safdar requested the court to give three more dates for the accused to submit their statements under Section 342 and promised to ensure the appearance of Bushra Bibi. The lawyers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) did not object to this assurance. The court accepted the assurance but issued a notice to the surety and upheld the arrest warrant. The court also adjourned the hearing till December 5. An application was filed for exemption from the presence of Bushra Bibi, but NAB lawyers opposed it. NAB submitted a report on the execution of the arrest warrant stating that attempts were made to locate Bushra Bibi but she was not found at her registered address.
