Gomez said the shooting left her “a little bruised” from all the dance numbers. So, why did she want to do it? “I found it incredibly compelling,” she said. “I’ve never really seen a movie like this before. I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of anything acting.”
And that’s really saying something; At 32, Gomez has a lot to be proud of: she’s an accomplished actor, but she’s also a very successful singer-songwriter, and thanks to her immense popularity Rare beauty. line of cosmetics, he is a billionaire, and a very active philanthropist. It’s all pretty impressive, and even more so when you realize where it all started.
Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas. His mother, Mindy Taffy, was only 16 years old. Selena’s parents separated when she was five years old. She says the family had a lot of love, and not much, with hard times as her mother struggled to put food on the table. “My mother worked several jobs,” she said. “She was also finishing high school when she was with me.
Gomez was barely 10 years old when she appeared on TV’s “Barney & Friends” and a few years later became a fixture on shows like “Wizards of Waverly Place” on the Disney Channel.
She got into music, and became a pop sensation. And when the pandemic hit, he shifted gears again, hosting. “Selena + Chef,” A popular online cooking show shot in the kitchen of her LA home. “We had cameras everywhere, on every side of it,” he said.
And how are her cooking skills now? “They’re not that good, I won’t lie!” He laughed.
And then, in 2021 he helped create one of the biggest hits on TV: “The only murder in the building.” He praised his co-stars, Steve Martin and Martin Short: “These guys, Steve and Martin, have been working longer than I’ve been alive, but they’re the first people on set. They ask everybody. How their day is going, they think they’re great people, and these people have become my friends and allies, and I couldn’t be more grateful to work with them could.”
Gomez is the first to admit that she’s led a magical life, and that it hasn’t always been a bed of roses. She has been open about her health struggles, such as having lupus and undergoing a kidney transplant.
She also decided to go public with her struggles with anxiety and depression and her bipolar diagnosis. His 2022 documentary, “Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me,” He has a spontaneous view of life – highs and very deep lows.
She admits she was a little nervous about sharing it with the world, but, “Once I released it, it felt like a huge relief, because I’m a firm believer in what you do.” One of the strongest things you can do is to be vulnerable. That doesn’t mean you have to open up to everyone, but I made that decision, because I knew I was. And if my world was already in front of everyone Telling my part of the story and adding to it, that’s a dream I’m doing.”
Part of what he dreams of is a benefit held for him last month. Rare Impact Funda charity that aims to help young people who are dealing with the same mental health challenges they are going through. “That’s probably the most important thing to me besides my family,” he said. “It’s the cherry on top of everything else.”
Another high point is her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, whom People magazine named one of the sexiest men alive. “Yes, that’s my man!” Gomes said. “To know that there is someone in the world who cares deeply about every little detail of who I am makes me truly blessed.”
It’s clear from “Emilia Perez” that she’s an artist who likes to take risks. But Selena Gomez’s biggest move is sharing her true self, and it’s made all the difference.
I asked, “The response in general has been overwhelmingly positive, hasn’t it?”
“Sure. Maybe,” Gomez replied.
Can be? “It’s not like I really need anyone’s approval,” he added. “I feel like I’m really, I’m okay with where I am and who I am. And I’m happy. I’m happy that I finally got there.”
