Despite these outages, online banking services will continue to be available across the country. Although regular bank branches will remain closed on these specific days, online banking services and ATMs will function smoothly.
Meanwhile, bank employees are demanding a 5-day work week. According to media reports, the long-standing proposal is now likely to get final approval from the finance ministry soon. As a result, bank branches will be closed on all Saturdays and Sundays instead of all Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays.
An agreement in this regard has already been reached between the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the employee unions.
Bank employee unions have assured that this will not reduce customer service hours. To ensure this, the working hours will also be revised to extend by about 40 minutes.
