A sessions court has sentenced a dacoit to 14 years imprisonment in the cases of robbery and possession of arms without license.
Adnan was found guilty of robbing a hotel and four workers of over Rs 175,000 in cash and mobile phones at gunpoint in Korangi in Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) police limits last August.
Additional Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon ruled that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing its case against the accused beyond reasonable doubt. He sentenced the convict to seven years imprisonment for the offense punishable under Section 397 (robbery or robbery, attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The judge sentenced the convict to another seven years in prison for possession of firearms without a license. He was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 or face another two months imprisonment in default.
The cases of robbery/robbery are on the rise in Karachi these days and the common man does not feel safe in the hands of ruthless robbers. Thus, in the larger interest of the public, minor or trivial discrepancies are overlooked,” observed the judge.
“In this case, there is direct evidence against the accused, subsequent to the recovery of unlicensed arms, and the accused has not brought anything on record which would undermine the strong evidence of the prosecution.”
He noted that the complainant Muhammad Akbar during his testimony said that he had forgiven the accused in the name of Allah because his wife, mother and daughter came to his house and thus the defense counsel cross-examined the witness. did not
Since the counsel did not cross-examine the witness, his evidence is beyond doubt, the prosecution’s case is proved. According to Prosecutor Syed Khurshid Bukhari, on August 25, 2023, the accused along with his accomplices committed a robbery at a hotel in Nasir Colony, Sector 32-D of Korangi.
They looted Rs 165,000 in cash from the hotel counter and looted mobile phones of four employees and Rs 12,000 in cash. The accused was caught by the complainant and bystanders, while his two accomplices managed to escape.
As soon as the incident was reported, the police party reached there and arrested the accused and recovered an unlicensed pistol from his possession. In his statement recorded under Section 342 of the Penal Code, the accused denied the allegations of the prosecution saying that the complainant had already forgiven him.
The accused also claimed that he had not committed the alleged crime and that nothing had been recovered from him but the police had fired at him. On the complaint of the hotel owner, two separate FIRs were registered against him at the KIA police station.
