EASA lifts ban on PIA flights, Defense Minister

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said on Friday that the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has lifted the ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights.

Making the announcement via an X-Post on Friday, Asif, who is also the aviation minister, wrote: “It is an important day to announce that the European Commission and EASA have banned PIA from flying to Europe. The suspension is over.”

“This has been possible due to the total focus of the aviation ministry to strengthen the PCAA. [Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority] and ensure safety monitoring in accordance with ICAO [International Civil Aviation Organization] Standards.”

Crediting the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, Asif said: “Our government has taken important steps to strengthen the PCAA, including the implementation of the PCAA Act, streamlining of the regulator and service providers. Build capacity, including separation, professional leadership appointments and training.”

He thanked the European Commission and EASA for conducting a transparent process and expressed our commitment to ensure aviation safety in Pakistan.
