In her closing message, she urged parents to seek a second and third opinion before opting for invasive procedures such as a bone marrow test or biopsy if their child is experiencing ‘lymph node swelling’.
Tanya explained, “Lymph nodes are the body’s defenses and can swell due to emotional trauma, feelings of rejection or betrayal, or an untreated previous infection. Unfortunately, it’s long before we have access to this information. Caught in a ‘medical trap.'” He expressed his hope that no child would have to endure the “cruel world of a medical trap”.
What causes swollen lymph nodes?
Swollen lymph nodesor lymphadenopathy, occurs when lymph nodes become enlarged due to an active immune response. Infections are the most common cause, including bacterial, viral (such as the flu or HIV), and fungal infections. Conditions such as tuberculosis or mononucleosis can also trigger inflammation.
Other causes include inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, which abnormally activate the immune system. Cancers, such as lymphoma or leukemia, can cause persistent lymph node swelling. Less commonly, swollen nodes can result from medications or allergic reactions.
Location and associated symptoms, such as pain or fever, help determine the underlying cause, requiring a medical evaluation for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Can vaccines cause lymph node swelling?
Some vaccines can temporarily cause lymph node swelling as a normal immune response. This happens because the vaccine stimulates the immune system, prompting the lymph nodes to produce immune cells.
Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and smallpox vaccines can cause lymphadenopathy in some cases.
These reactions are usually mild and resolve within days to weeks. Inflammation indicates that the body’s immune system is developing, but persistent or severe symptoms should be evaluated by a doctor.
For the uninitiated, Kumar’s family shared an official statement after Tisha’s demise, revealing that she died after a long battle with the disease.
