Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has emphasized that the country needs young and committed leadership, as timely and bold decisions lead to better results.
Addressing a delegation of the 51st Special Training Program and 27th Commander’s Course of the Police Service at the KMC Head Office on Thursday, he said that young and dedicated officers have the potential to change the destiny of the country.
The mayor said that efforts are underway to improve Karachi’s infrastructure, including street lights, bridges and flyovers. Improved tax collection by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has brought positive changes, with tax collection by K-Electric expected to generate more than Rs 3 billion annually. He identified the improvement of clean water supply and sewage system as Karachi’s top priorities for which practical measures are already being implemented.
Wahab welcomed the delegation and explained that KMC is the central body responsible for municipal services in Karachi. He noted that Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board now come under the jurisdiction of the Mayor, which facilitates collective and rapid development works in the city.
He remarked that full coordination with other municipal bodies and consultation of citizens has resulted in effective and beneficial results. The mayor further highlighted the importance of financial stability in running any organization.
