Progressive “squad” member Rep. Ayana PresleyD-Mass., fears the Democratic Party will abandon its far-left policy goals in response to its defeat in the 2024 election.
In the comments of The Boston Globe, Presley suggested that this would be the wrong way to win the trust of voters.
“I am concerned that we will, in this moment, moderate our policy aspirations,” he said. “If we say, ‘Let’s go home and let’s get the gavel back and work to stay in power, get the House, get the Senate, get the White House,’ the real question is, Democrats, you want power, But what to do and that has been a problem we have struggled to overcome.”
After the election, moderate members of the Democratic Party suggested that the party’s focus on identity politics had contributed to the exodus of blue-collar and minority voters from the party over the past few years.

Representative Seth Moulton, a fellow Democrat from Massachusetts, reacted afterward. telling the New York Times Earlier this month the Democratic Party’s stance on transgender athletes was out of touch with most Americans.
“Democrats spend too much time trying not to offend anyone instead of being brutally honest about the challenges facing many Americans,” Moulton told the Times. “I have two little girls, I don’t want them to be run over on the playground by a man or an ex-male player, but as a Democrat I should be afraid to say that.”
In the Times report, Rep. Tom Sozzi, DN.Y. He also said his party needed to stop “swinging to the far left” on the transgender issue.
However, Presley argued that voters overwhelmingly supported progressive policies in the election, citing support for abortion rights and the expansion of paid leave at the ballot box.

In the 2024 election Seven States Voted to amend restrictions on abortion rights, while three states defeated similar measures to keep existing restrictions in place.

The legislation passed the House Oversight Committee on a party-line vote, 23-17.
