Alabama suspect accused of shooting outside of a Birmingham Night Club September has now been charged with killing several others in multiple shootings this year.

Damien McDaniel, who is currently in police custody, was charged with murder in connection with the July 13 mass shooting that killed four people and injured 10 others. The charges against the 22-year-old were announced by the Birmingham Police Department during a press conference Wednesday.

McDaniel was already connected to one. Mass shooting on September 21 in Birmingham, where four people were killed and at least 17 others injured. At the time of the shooting, Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond said he believed. Shooting There was “one hit” and that the suspects were paid to carry out the shootings.

Both shootings took place outside nightclubs, the Sept. 21 massacre near the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

On top of his connections to the two mass shootings, police now also believe McDaniel was involved in three other shootings. The shootings, which were fatal, happened on three separate days in August and September.

In total, police believe McDaniel killed 11 people and injured 29 others in five separate incidents.

Suspect Hatarius Woods, 27, was also charged with murder in connection with the July mass shooting. Other shooters were also involved in the September 21 massacre, but the shooting is still under investigation.

During a press conference Wednesday, Officer Truman Fitzgerald said Woods and McDaniel were responsible for about 30 percent of the homicides in Birmingham between July and September.

“These individuals started again in July, and they haven’t stopped since September,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said at a press conference Wednesday. “We often say at these crime scenes that we have a select few criminals who add to the crime and give Birmingham a bad name.”

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin recently spoke about the city’s violent crime crisis, asking state lawmakers to address the problem instead of putting more officers on the streets.

“Even if I give you more officers on our roads, people are still legally allowed to drive with these types of guns,” the mayor said in a YouTube video Tuesday. “If I were a betting man, I would believe that the residents of Birmingham have had enough and would like to see more gun safety laws that protect the people in Birmingham, but this is beyond me. Must come.”
