The action by the federal capital police on Wednesday came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need for “tough decisions” to curb inflammatory politics and restore stability in the country.
Addressing the federal cabinet meeting today, the Prime Minister said that we have to decide whether we save Pakistan or allow the sit-ins.
These cases were registered in various police stations including Shahzad Town, Sahala, Khanna, Shams Colony, Noon, Nellore, Tarnool and Banigala. Bushra Bibi and PTI’s central leadership including Ali Amin Gandapur, Salman Akram Raja and Sheikh Waqas Akram have been named in the recently filed FIR.
Apart from the party’s local leadership, thousands of people are also named in these cases.
The cases include charges of terrorism, attack on police, violation of Section 144, kidnapping and interference in official functions.
The former ruling party’s “do or die” protests, which began on November 24, saw clashes between its supporters and law enforcement, blocking roads and educational institutions. The protest came to an abrupt end after a crackdown by security forces on Wednesday morning.
The law enforcement operation dispersed the protesters and Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi fled back to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The recent protest was the latest in a months-long campaign by the PTI for the release of Imran Khan, who has been behind bars in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in various cases for over a year.
