New Delhi: One97 Communications Limited (OCL), which owns the Paytm brand, has enabled its customers to make UPI payments at various international locations.
According to a company statement, Indian travelers can now use their Paytm app to make seamless, cashless payments in locations where UPI is accepted, including UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore, France, Famous places of Mauritius, Bhutan and Nepal.
This enhancement allows users to easily pay for all usage cases including overseas shopping, dining and local experiences using UPI through their Paytm app.
The company also said that users can set up UPI International on the Paytm app, with one-time activation linked to the user’s bank account. When scanning a UPI-enabled QR code abroad, the app will automatically prompt for activation for easy access.
Travelers can choose a usage period from 1 to 90 days based on their trip and can deactivate the service at any time to ensure that payments are made only when intended. This feature helps prevent accidental transactions with foreign merchants when customers return to India, offering added security and control.
During payment, customers can see the exact foreign currency rate applied by their bank and any conversion fees, ensuring complete transparency before completing the transaction.
Paytm’s UPI International service enables travelers to manage their spending with ease and control at popular international destinations.
From Dubai’s vibrant dining and shopping destinations, Singapore’s famous bazaars and Mauritius’ beach markets, to artisan shops in Bhutan and local shopping destinations in Nepal or gems in Sri Lanka, travelers will be able to enjoy a variety of experiences, the company added.
