Jane Rather, wife of artist and former television anchor Dan Rather, has died at the age of 89.
On Tuesday, November 26, the news of his death was shared by Dean’s friends through his official Facebook account.
“Today is the saddest day for Dean and the extended Rather family,” read the lengthy post that Jane died this morning at her home in Austin, Texas after a battle with cancer.
“She had been in hospice care for some time, but the news still comes as a shock to those of us who knew and loved her,” the Post wrote in thoughts and prayers for Rather’s family during this difficult time. Asked for prayers.
Jane was described as “an incredible wife, mother, friend, and artist – and a true Texan.”
The couple met when Jane began her career at a Houston radio station. During their nearly 67-year marriage, they lived in various cities around the world, including Dallas, Washington DC, London and New York City.
Jane is survived by her husband, Dan, her son Dan Jack, daughter Robin, as well as her partner, children, and extended family.
