Thankfully, Miller came out with only minor injuries. The city government shared an update on Miller’s health and thanked Lockhart for his kindness.

“Jalen’s quick-thinking, selfless actions helped save the day,” the government’s Facebook post read before adding how Miller was injured but would be fine.

Marcia, Guy’s wife, approaches Lockhart, wanting to get him back to help her husband. “I said, ‘What are you doing for Thanksgiving? You have a family? Yeah?’ We said, ‘We’re family, for sure,'” she recounted NBC Chicago.

Now, Lockhart and his loved ones will join the Millers for Turkey on November 28.

Additionally, Mayor Richard Irwin presented Lockhart with his Award of Service at the Aurora Winter Lights Festival. Lockhart can be seen helping light the community’s Christmas tree in photos shared on the city’s Facebook page.

Lockhart admired the city’s honor. He told WFLD: “I am blessed and overjoyed to have been chosen to do this. I will hold it near and dear to my heart.”

The Millers and Lockhart aren’t the first strangers to spend Thanksgiving together. in fact, Wanda Dench, a grandmother from Arizona, and Jamal Hinton, 25, have been dating for years. Since their accidental text chain.

In 2016, Dench inadvertently texted Hinton, thinking it was her 24-year-old grandson. Hinton was sitting in her high school class when she received Dench’s message. Both quickly deduced that Dench meant to text someone else. However, Hinton still asked if he was welcome at Dench’s Thanksgiving dinner. Sure enough, Dench extended the invitation. The two have been close for years.

Sadly, at the end of October, Hinton broke the news that Dench had officially been diagnosed with breast cancer.. He took to X/Twitter to post a message written by his dear friend.

“You may know how we met in 2016 when I accidentally sent him a text inviting him to Thanksgiving when I thought I had sent it to my grandson,” he began. “It went viral and changed our lives for the better and we still plan to get together for Thanksgiving next month like we have every year.

“Earlier this year, I came down with bronchitis and had a CT scan to check my lungs. That’s when I found a mass in my breast and they suggested I get a mammogram and that It was confirmed that I had breast cancer,” she continued.
