Sukkur: In a horrific incident in Tehsil New Saeedabad of Matiari district of Sindh, a female lecturer of Grade 17 became a victim of the evil tradition of Karo Kari.
Karo-kari is a type of honor killing mainly committed against women who are believed to have dishonored their families by engaging in premarital or extramarital affairs. are
According to reports, Imdad Jamali shot and killed his wife Afshan Jamali in Bakar Jamalia Higher Secondary School.
The police arrived at the spot and arrested the accused, who in his confessional statement told the police that he had shot and killed his wife on suspicion of cheating.
She further said that she had married Afshan a few years ago, accusing her of having an affair with a man and kept meeting her at different places.
In his statement, he told the police that he tried to convince him and even contacted his parents but he did not change his mind after which he shot him dead.
Station House Officer New Saeedabad Karam Ali Jumani said that the confession of the accused has been recorded and said that the First Information Report (FIR) has not been filed yet.
The victim’s father, Haji Muhammad Jamal – who lives in Dubai, held the husband, her father Wazir Jamali and brother Darya Khan responsible for the murder and said he would name them in the FIR.
He said he was greedy for property, claiming that his daughters had no extramarital affairs with anyone. Haji Mohammad said that he had sent Rs 200,000 to his daughter a fortnight ago, adding that Rs 100,000 was Afshan’s salary.
The father claimed that he had built a bungalow worth Rs 50 lakh but the accused asked the victim for more money to which she told that the money was in the bank.
The father said that Imdad, however, pressured his wife to pay Rs 50,000 but when she refused, he shot and killed her.
Haji Mohammad said that his daughter was a lecturer at Bakar Jamali Higher Secondary School and she passed the Sindh Public Service Commission subject specialist exam six months ago and got a job in the same field.
The father said that he and other family members live in Dubai where he is an engineer in an airline company and his son is a pilot.
He said that his deceased daughter also lived in Dubai before marriage. He was married to Imda with whom he had three children.
