LAHORE: Residents of Lahore along with people in other cities of Punjab were hit by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake on Thursday.
The tremors – which forced residents to flee their homes and buildings in panic – were felt in Jhelum, Kamalia, Khanewal as well as Chichawatani, Bhalwal, Chiniot and Hafizabad.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 15 km near Kharian.
DGP PDMA said that according to the initial report of PDMA Punjab, there was no loss of life or property due to the earthquake, the administration is actively inspecting the buildings.
Last month, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was felt in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), causing panic among residents.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was the border region of Afghanistan and Tajikistan with a depth of 212 km.
This was the second earthquake in KP in a month as two weeks ago a magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook several parts of the province.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in Pakistan, as the country is located on the border of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Large parts of South Asia are seismically active as a tectonic plate known as the Indian Plate is thrusting northward into the Eurasian Plate.
