ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan have increased by 42% after the federal government allowed the export of sugar.

During the first five months of the current fiscal year, Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan increased by 42 percent and sugar exports to Afghanistan increased by 2,244 percent during the same period.

Exports to Afghanistan increased by 17% year-on-year in November 2024 and sugar exports to Afghanistan accounted for the largest share of Pakistani exports in the first five months of the current fiscal year.

According to sources, Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan in July-November 2024 were $578.7 million and $408.8 million in the same period last year. Exports were $128.5 million in November 2024 and $110 million in November 2023.

Sources said that sugar exports to Afghanistan in July-November 2024 were $138.9 million and $5.9 million in the same period last year. The federal cabinet has approved the export of 750,000 metric tonnes of sugar from June 2024 till now.
